Feeling Overwhelmed? What to Do When Life Feels Like It’s Too Much

There are moments when everything feels like it’s stacking up at once.
The responsibilities, the decisions, the noise in your mind… it all starts to feel heavier than you can carry.

And if you’re honest, it’s not just the busyness.
It’s the weight of it. The pressure. The feeling that you’re holding too much, and there’s no place to set it down.

When your heart feels overwhelmed

Psalm 61:2 says,
“When my heart is overwhelmed, lead me to the rock that is higher than I.”

Not ifwhen.

Overwhelm isn’t a failure.
It’s a human response to carrying more than you were meant to carry alone.

And this verse doesn’t tell you to push through it, fix it, or figure it out.
It gives you a direction:

Go to the Rock.

You don’t have to carry it all

There’s this quiet belief many of us carry:
“I just need to get through this.”
“I need to handle it.”
“I shouldn’t feel this overwhelmed.”

But Jesus says something very different in Matthew 11:28:

“Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”

And just after that, He talks about His yoke.

A yoke was designed for two—but not two of equal strength.
It paired a stronger ox with a weaker one, so the stronger carried the weight and set the pace.

That’s the picture.

You’re not being asked to pull harder.
You’re being invited to walk with Him—and let Him carry what’s too heavy.

A simple reset when everything feels like too much

When overwhelm hits, don’t try to fix everything at once.
Just come back to this:

Pause.
Breathe.
And say, “God, I can’t carry this right now. I’m giving it to You.”

That’s the return.

Not perfect words.
Not a long prayer.
Just a real moment of release.

Lay it down, again and again

Sometimes the hardest part isn’t coming to God once—
it’s coming back again the next time the weight builds up.

But that’s the rhythm:

Feel it → Return → Release → Rest

Over and over.

You don’t have to hold it all together.
You don’t have to carry it alone.

A reminder you can come back to

Sometimes what helps most is having something in front of you that brings you back in the moment—
a simple reminder to pause, return, and release.

That’s why these messages matter. Not just to read once, but to come back to throughout the day when your thoughts start to spiral.

Sometimes the hardest part is remembering to come back.
That’s why we’ve created a few designs to gently remind you to return to the Rock, lay it down, and release the weight—right in the middle of your day.

For the Overwhelmed

You’re not alone in this

If today feels like too much, you’re not the only one carrying that weight.

And you don’t have to wait until everything is calm to come to God.

You can come overwhelmed.
You can come tired.
You can come exactly as you are.

And He will meet you there—
and carry what you were never meant to hold alone.
